As the new Superintendent of Woodland Public Schools I have been impressed by the quality of learning that is occurring for children in this School District. The growth of student performance, as measure by the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) has grown over the last decade at a rate that has far exceeded the growth of performance of students across the State. This is to the credit of the staff and leadership of this School District who have kept their focus on improving learning for all kids.
As the Superintendent of Woodland it is my intent to foster the continuation of improvements of student learning as measured by the WASL and in the arts, health and fitness, history, civics and so many other areas of important learning.
As well, I aim to focus on the development of methods to ensure that EACH child is learning to her or his ability. The Federal No Child Left Behind Act and the Washington State learning improvement legislation do not hold us accountable for the performance of our most capable learners. We will hold ourselves accountable.
